Podcast: "Hometown Radio" with Dave Congalton

A photo of radio host Dave Congalton and Craig Hill, his producer, traffic and weather reporter, and call screener.

I should’ve taken a photo of myself with Dave, but I was distracted by trying not to say “um” too many times on the radio. Here, Dave appears (left) with his producer, Craig Hill. Photo from KVEC’s website.

Dave Congalton, a radio host in my current hometown of San Luis Obispo, California, invited me on his daily afternoon show, “Hometown Radio,” in advance of a talk I’m giving this Saturday for the Coastal Dunes branch of the California Writers Club. I’m a lifelong radio fan, and Dave’s show teaches me so much about my community (the guest before me discussed the challenges our local history center is facing), so I was flattered by the invitation and thrilled to take a seat before the microphone.

We mostly talked about life story and memoir writing—mine, my students’, and Dave’s. Take a listen:
