Sometime around 2019 or 2020, I decided to self-publish a craft book for memoir and life story writers that had been writing itself by way of the tips and prompts I’d been giving my students for years. There was only one person I could dare ask to work with me on such an audacious project, my friend Dorka Hegedus. Dorka is a professional photographer, a visual creative, and a fantastic collaborator. More importantly, she loves a challenge. I knew all of this because we’d worked together on many projects in the past, including sharing tips on raising sons, cooking soups and nourishing foods together and for one another, never compromising on coffee, and two oral history projects you can see HERE and HERE.

Dorka and I published our first Demitasse Press book, How to Begin Writing Your Life Stories: Putting Memories on the Page, in August 2024. The next year, we published two wonderfully written, artistic books of life story writing: Gathering: Family, Grief, Resilience by Patsy Truxaw, and Hey Nature Lady: Vignettes on Living a Creative Life by Jane Howard. Then came Unlocking Ordinary Wonders: How Reiki and the Healing Arts Opened My Heart. We’re currently working on our next book, Memories on the Page: A Year of Tips and Prompts for Memoir and Life Story Writers, to be published in 2027.
